Various Video Projects from Spring 2023-Autumn 2025
Hypebeast -Autumn 2025
In a digital world, identity is often based off of a performance. Inauthenticity is coupled with this performance, as a person tries to portray a life they do not live. Part of this performance is wearing and buying clothing items that reflect the lifestyle one may want to live. The twenty-first century “hypebeast” is a person who is quite literally, a beast for the hype. In my “Taming the Hypebeast” zine, I detail what makes a hypebeast and their rise and fall in digital culture. In my creative project, I created a short satirical video about a person who is a self-proclaimed hypebeast. My character, referred to as Hypbeast, constantly tries to be someone they are not, and lives their life as a performance of another. Hypebeast’s love for skatebrands, taste for matcha, and laid back attitude all seems to be an act for the camera. Hypebeast overcompensates with their bragging and "I don't care” attitude. In addition to this, Hypebeast is always reaching for an unattainable identity. This is represented through their constant reaching for the basketball hoop, with never being able to fully grasp it, no matter how many times they try. Hypebeast is a caricature of masculinity, and the unattainable standards that it pushes. Overall this video is a comical critique of hypebeast masculine culture.
Attention Deficit -Autumn 2025
The past decade has created a content and information overload online, with attention and views a form of social currency. This video explores the noise and distractions, and online “brain rot” that has taken over the internet and the minds of its users IRL.
Every time You Wake Up, It’s Just a Dream - Spring 2025
Every night before we fall asleep, we lay in bed and we think. We think about the day that has passed, the week to follow, old friends, awkward moments, hypothetical situations, and anxiety inducing fears. This cacophony of thoughts often slips its way into a dream as we finally fall asleep and enter REM. In the morning, we may forget or remember such, recounting those at the breakfast table, or keeping our nightly hallucinations to ourselves. Personally, I share my dreams, especially those that reoccur. Since I can remember, I’ve had a frequent dream of nonsense scenarios where I slowly blackout and lose my vision. While asleep and while recounting this while awake, a feeling of unease and anxiety washes over me. As I have grown, I have tried to understand and come to terms with my anxieties. While I am still unsure what this dream means and what within me causes it, I decided to explore it further by making a short recreation of it through film. The following video has no rhyme nor reason, but puts me in touch with my asleep side, to better understand this recurring motif throughout my nights. My goal of this project was to effectively recreate this recurring nightmare of losing my vision. By filming at strange and absurd locations, and combining these with eerie sounds, I have efficiently simulated what my dream is like for others. This project explores dreams and reality, and how better understanding dreams can help create a better understanding of reality.
Cowpoke- Spring 2024
Inspired by old school Spaghetti Westerns, “Cowpoke” was created to record another day of a family summer vacation. Taking place in the “Great American West”, aka Western Colorado, this short vlog transforms a family day into an unforgettable saga with heroes, villains, and a biting soundtrack.
The concept for this video was a mockumentary style interview of a designer for a typical fast fashion brand. The designer provides viewers with a brief glimpse into how she really feels about fast fashion, how she benefits from it, and the detrimental effects it has on the earth. I want this video to send a humorous, yet impactful message to consumers on why the fast fashion industry is harmful. To successfully create this video I used a Sony camcorder as well as a Zoom microphone. I began by researching my topic of fast fashion, then writing a script to reflect the topic. I used sarcasm and word play throughout the script to execute a humorous message. Next, I found stock footage of fashion scenes and environmental pollution clips from the Creative Commons. I then spent an afternoon filming with my actress, Liz Duffie. I finally edited the video, providing the final result. The most difficult part when editing this video was linking up the video and the audio, as they were recorded with two different devices. I also had difficulty finding consistent and bright lighting when filming. I am most proud of how clear the audio sounds and the editing of the video. Although challenging, this project was rewarding as I practiced and learned new skills across several mediums. In the future I hope to explore the video medium further.
Fast Fashion Week -Spring 2023
This project is a piece of abstract video art titled “Fame is a Piece of Cake”. It is meant as chaotic commentary on the pursuit of fame and the many negatives that come with it. These negatives include how fame often consumes people, as people in turn consume fame. The pursuit of fame and attention has always been the goal of many throughout history. Now more than ever, social media has made it possible for almost anyone to pursue short lived stardom. To achieve this message in my video, I used the metaphor of a chocolate cake. This cake symbolizes the consumption of a young star and her consumption of fame. It also works to symbolizes moderation. Like fame, cake can be good in moderation, but too much can quickly lead to disaster. For the audio aspect of this project, I layered several tracks of applause, lightbulbs flashing, and vintage audio test tracks. These were all used to give the video that classic Hollywood vibe. I also layered several voice clips with narration about the protagonist’s need for fame. These voice clips include “I’m a star”, “I did it”, and “They love me”.

Body Check -Spring 2023
For the bodycam project, I wanted to create a narrative revolving around the concept of body image and beauty standards. It was difficult for me to find the way I wanted to convey this. After several brainstorming sessions, I decided to film a daily routine type video, with the point of view being from someone who constantly and tirelessly tries to keep up with a beauty standard. To achieve this, I filmed a variety of scenarios from a variety of angles. I used the chest mount to film several scenes of me at the gym and running outside. These drive my narrative by being connected to the body in scenes that have to do with the physical body. I used the head strap when filming the scenes of makeup and food. Eating and doing makeup are two routines that happen with the face, so the head strap made the most sense to use here. Finally, I used the wrist strap when at the store buying goods. The most difficult part of this project was trying to get the perfect angle for each of the shots. This required many retakes and reshots. This project also felt very personal for me, as I have often struggled with trying to keep up with an unrealistic beauty standard. I hope other people can relate with my video and find some comfort in this very shared and common experience. Overall I enjoyed getting to film this project, I enjoyed the editing process even more as there was a lot of minor edits involved. These were time consuming, but paid off in the overall project.
